Chicago's Finest

Chicago has produced some of the best hip hop and r&b artists in the music industry. All the music artists that I'm going to mention below have the ability to compose their own lyrics but only few of them possess the talent to produce a song or an entire album. We also cannot ignore the fact that these music artists won numerous awards and achieved either gold or multi-platinum records.

Here's my list of the best Hip Hop and R&B artists from Chicago:

Common

*Received three RIAA Gold Certifications for his albums "Like Water for Chocolate" (2000), "Be" (2005) and "Finding Forever" (2007)
*2-time Grammy Award winner

Twista

*Received one RIAA Platinum Certification for his album "Kamikaze" (2004) while two Gold Certifications for his albums "Adrenaline Rush" (1997) and "The Day After" (2005)
*Had the record as the fastest rapper in the world in 1992


Da Brat


*Received two RIAA Platinum Certifications for her albums "Funkdafield" (1994) and "Unrestricted" (2000) while one Gold Certification for her album "Anuthantantrum" (1996)
*3-time Billboard Music Award winner

Lupe Fiasco

*Received two RIAA Gold Certifications for his albums "Lupe Fiasco's The Cool" (2007) and "Lasers" (2011)
*1-time Grammy Award Winner
*2009 Character Approved Award for Musician

Kanye West

*Received five RIAA Platinum Certifications for all of his five solo albums while one for his collaboration album "Watch The Throne" (2011) with Jay-Z 
*Produced various songs for other artists and for himself
*Listed as one of The Most Influential People in The World by Time 100
*3 of his 5 albums were included in Rolling Stone's The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time
*Founder of an American record label "Good Music"
*One of the most awarded artist of all time by the Grammys with 18

*Received eight RIAA Platinum Certifications and one RIAA Gold Certification for nine out of his eleven solo albums; two RIAA Platinum Certifications for his collaboration albums with Jay-Z and one RIAA Platinum Certification for his greatest hits album

*Named by Billboard as the most successful R&B artist in the last 25 years

Sam Cooke

*1986 Rock and Roll Hall of fame inductee
*Recipient of Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999
*Named as fourth Greatest Singer of All Time by Rolling Stone in 1998


Chaka Khan

*Received four RIAA Gold Certifications for her albums "Chaka" (1978), "What Cha' Gonna Do for Me" (1981) and two compilation albums; one RIAA Platinum Certification for her album "I Feel for You" (1984)
